The Bear on the Anthill was unveiled in Kallio in 1931 and has dominated karhupuisto (bear park) ever since, it often stands center stage during neighborhood celebrations such as Restaurant Day and Kallio Block Party. Designed by Jussi Mäntynen, who was originally a taxidermist at the department of zoology, allowing him to recreate the animals of Finland with realistic accuracy. The bear is a stylized combination of anatomic exactness and natural composition that conveys strength.
