Helsinki Ghost Town is far from the tourist trail but well worth a visit. To get there I would suggest going by bike, it’s a great ride connected by cycle paths all the way from the city. It is possible to get there by public transport, metro to Herttoniemi and then a bus, I won’t tell you the exact one as finding your own way only adds to the intrigue. Though, a quick search of Helsinki Ghost Town or Kruunuvuori will help you find the answers you need.
Once you arrive in the general area in Kruunuvuori it can be a bit of a hunt through the woods, especially in summer when the leaves hide almost everything, before you will find your first villa. Once you do more will start to appear, many houses that had once been lived in but long since abandoned to slowly decay and in some cases collapse.
Some of the villas are in much better condition than others, it is even possible to venture inside and, for the bravest of explorers, upstairs but proceed which caution. There are a few that have sustained far more damage and can only be admired from the outside.
There is another reason to visit Helsinki’s Ghost Town a part from the abandon villas, and that is the excellent views of Helsinki that can be enjoyed by the water. You can see a large amount of the city from here and out to Suomenlinna and Vallisaari, in my opinion the view is one of the best you can get of Helsinki.

It’s amazing how there can be an area like this in Helsinki! Imagine how wonderful it would be if those villas had been kept nicely. I’ve never been!

It is a great visit. Unfortunately some are in disrepair, still I am unsure what caused the people to move out or what will happen to the area now.

A little out of the city but a great experience. Did you manage to visit any of the neighboring areas?
